K579 is a an agent that acts as a low-binding dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP IV) inhibitor. The inhibitor is a cyanopyrrolidine compound that is more potent and acts as a slower binding inhibitor than the used dipeptidyl peptidase IV inhibitor, NVP-DPP728. Research shows that it can conserve endogenously secreted active forms of glucagon-lke peptide-1, heighten insulin response and can ameliorate glucose excursion during oral glucose tolerance tests in rats. K579 has also been shown to reduce plasm glucose concentration, as well as suppress blood glucose elevation in rats.
