1,1-Dioctadecyl-3,3,3,3-tetramethylindodicarbocyanine-5,5-disulfonic acid is near-infrared in the spectrum (orange fluorescence) and contains both hydrophilic and lipophilic parts. This amphiphilic molecule exhibits stronger fluorescence in water than its DiI analogs which are highly lipophilic. 1,1-Dioctadecyl-3,3,3,3-tetramethylindodicarbocyanine-5,5-disulfonic acid is used to dye membranes and can be used with FITC and TRITC filters respectively.
