Dihydroergocristine mesylate is a semisynthetic ergot alkaloid with effects on memory and cognition. Dihydroergocristine mesylate demonstrates antagonism at SR (serotonin receptors) and partial agonism/antagonism of dopaminergic and adrenergic receptors. Enhancement of spatial learning, acquisition of avoidance behavior, and retention of passive avoidance response were observed in aged rats exposed to Dihydroergocristine mesylate. Amphoteric vasoregulating activity is also observed with Dihydroergocristine mesylate, where hypotensive effects are noted in hypertensive animals and hypertensive effects noted in hypotensive animals.
