Digitonin, a steroidal saponin, originated from the foxglove plant Digitalis purpurea. Digitonin is a non-ionic detergent used to solubilize membrane-bound proteins. It can also water-solubilize lipids. Digitonin is often mistaken for Digoxin, or Digitoxin, all of which originate from the same foxglove plant.
