Digitonin, a steroidal saponin ,originated from the foxglove plant Digitalis purpurea. Digitonin can water-solubilize lipids. Digitonin is a non-ionic detergent commonly used to solubilize membrane-bound proteins. Digitonin is often mistaken for Digoxin, or Digitoxin, all of which originate from the same foxglove plant.
