QUICK LINKS

Bromoiodomethane, also referred to as dibromoiodomethane, is a halogenated hydrocarbon. Bromoiodomethane serves as a reagent in diverse organic reactions. It finds application as a reagent in the production of various organic compounds, such as pesticides and dyes. It contributes to the synthesis of organometallic compounds like organoborates and organoaluminum compounds as a reagent. Bromoiodomethane demonstrates electrophilic characteristics, thereby exhibiting an attraction to electron-rich regions within molecules. Upon reacting with such regions, it forms an electrophilic bromonium ion, which subsequently engages with electron-poor regions of the molecule. This particular reaction, known as an SN2 reaction, plays a role in various organic reactions, including the Wittig reaction, Stork enamine reaction, and Mitsunobu reaction.
