QUICK LINKS

Di-n-hexyl phthalate (DHP) is an organic compound with low volatility. It is a plasticizer, which is a substance added to plastics to increase their flexibility, durability, and longevity. It is in the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and polystyrene (PS) plastics. Di-n-hexyl phthalate can interact with cell membranes and disrupt their normal functioning, as well as cause DNA damage in cells. It also interferes with the metabolism of certain hormones, such as testosterone, which can lead to reproductive and developmental toxicity.
