Dess-Martin periodinane solution (DMP) is a reagent for the mild oxidation of alcohols, aldehydes, and ketones to their corresponding carboxylic acids. It has become one of the most widely used oxidizing agents in organic synthesis due to its high reactivity and ability to be used under mild conditions. It can also be used to oxidize alkenes to epoxides and sulfides to sulfoxides. Dess-Martin periodinane solution is employed in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, polymers, and other materials.
