Desmopressin acetate hydrate is an analogue, produced artificially, of the antidiuretic hormone vasopressin. It functions by binding to vasopressin V2 receptors in the renal collecting duct, leading to an increase in water reabsorption and a decrease in urine production. Desmopressin Acetate Hydrate′s mechanism of action involves the activation of adenylate cyclase, which results in the insertion of aquaporin-2 water channels into the apical membrane of the renal collecting duct cells. This leads to an increase in water permeability and reabsorption, ultimately reducing urine output. Desmopressin Acetate Hydrate′s function in experimental applications involves its role in studying the regulation of water balance and kidney function.
