QUICK LINKS

Desethylene Ciprofloxacin, Hydrochloride is a metabolite of the fluorinated quinolone antibacterial, Ciprofloxacin. Desethylene Ciprofloxacin, Hydrochloride is believed to act as a competitive inhibitor of bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme involved in the replication of bacterial DNA. By binding to the enzyme, it prevents it from functioning properly and thus prevents the replication of bacterial DNA. This mechanism of action is similar to that of other quinolone antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin.
