QUICK LINKS

DEPMPO is a phosphorylated derivative of the popular DMPO spin trap. DEPMPO has a longer life-time than DMPO. DEPMPO is the most efficient spin trap for the in vitro detection of O-, N-, S- and C-centered free radicals. It is possible for DEPMPO to distinguish between superoxide-dependent and independent mechanisms that lead to the hydroxyl radical. DEPMPO is less lipophilic (Kp=0.16) than DIPPMPO. DEPMPO works in concentrations as low as 1 mM, compared to DMPO which works at around 5 mM. DMPO also produces OH adducts, while DEPMPO may trap superoxide radicals without any OH adduct produced during decomposition.
