Dehydro Nifedipine is the main Nifedipine metabolite in human plasma. Dehydro nifedipine is a compound that is generated through the metabolism of nifedipine by cytochrome P450 (CYP) isomers CYP3A4 and CYP3A5. This metabolite has been observed to inhibit glucose uptake in PC-12 cells, with an IC50 value of 130 μM. Structurally, dehydro nifedipine falls into the phenylpyridine class of organic compounds, characterized by polycyclic aromatic structures comprising a benzene ring connected to a pyridine ring via a CC or CN bond. It is considered to be a relatively neutral molecule with limited solubility in water.
