Dantrolene sodium salt is a small molecule inhibitor of the Ryanodine receptor and a calcium channel protein inhibitor (see Ryanodine, sc-201523). Blockade of Ca2+ release from the sarcoendoplasmic reticulum, strongly related to excitation and contraction of muscles, generates a muscle relaxant effect correlated with Dantrolene sodium salt. The neurotoxicity presented by pronounced glutamate activity is correlated to excessive rises in cytoplasmic Ca2+ levels, and Dantrolene sodium salt is accordingly indicated as a neuroprotective agent against neurotrasmitter-induced excitotoxicity. Dantrolene, Sodium Salt is an inhibitor of RyR-1 and RyR-3.
