D-Panthenol functions as a provitamin of B5, which is a precursor to the active form of vitamin B5. Within the experiment, it acts as a moisturizing and conditioning agent, helping to improve the hydration and softness of the skin and hair. Its mechanism of action involves penetrating the skin and hair, where it is then converted to pantothenic acid, the active form of vitamin B5. This conversion process allows D-Panthenol to exert its moisturizing and conditioning effects by attracting and retaining moisture, as well as promoting the regeneration of skin cells. At the molecular level, D-Panthenol enhances the skin′s barrier function, reducing transepidermal water loss and improving the overall appearance and texture of the skin.
