D-myo-Inositol-1,4,5-triphosphate ,also known as Ins(1,4,5)P3 ,serves as a second messenger generated within cells through the breakdown of phosphatidyl inositol-4,5-biphosphate by phospholipase C. This molecule binds to specific receptors called Ins(1,4,5)P3 receptors, which consist of calcium channel domains. The interaction between Ins(1,4,5)P3 and these receptors leads to the activation of calcium channels, resulting in a rise in intracellular calcium levels. This product may act to be a stimulator of intracellular calcium mobilization.
