D-Maltose, Monohydrate, also known as Maltose, Monohydrate, is a white crystalline substance soluble water and insoluble in the majority of organic solvents. This compound is used in the affinity purification process of proteins, particularly with MBP-fused protein constructs, where maltose is integrated into an elution buffer to facilitate the release of the MBP-fused protein from the resin. D-Maltose, Monohydrate is also used as a sweetening agent in media designed for cell or bacterial cultivation and acts as a substrate in diverse enzymatic reactions. Additionally, it is a valuable starting material in synthesizing a variety of chemical entities. D-Maltose is a disaccharide produced when starch is broken down by amylase.
