D-Luciferin is a chemiluminescent substrate of the bioluminescent enzyme luciferase. D-Luciferin is cell-permeable and emits light upon oxidative decarboxylation in presence of ATP. D-Luciferin and luciferase can be used to assess ATP availability in cellular or biochemical assays.
