Cystamine dihydrochloride is a derivative of the amino acid cysteine and an inhibitor of TGase. Additionally, it is a Heparin antagonist and sulfhydryl modifying reagent. Cystamine dihydrochloride is used in research for its ability to act as a reducing agent, as a substrate for enzymes, and as a scavenger for free radicals. It is also used in the synthesis of other compounds and in the study of biological processes. It may act to reduce inflammation and protect cells from apoptosis, as well as have antioxidant and cytoprotective effects.
