Cubilin Antibody (A-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgM antibody that detects cubilin in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Cubilin is an essential endocytic receptor that plays a critical role in the absorption of various ligands, including vitamin B12, apolipoprotein A1, and albumin, by facilitating their internalization in the intestine and kidney. Cubilin is characterized by a unique structure, which includes an amino terminal segment followed by eight epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like repeats and a series of 27 CUB domains, allowing cubilin to interact effectively with megalin, another receptor crucial for the uptake of cubilin-bound ligands. This interaction occurs specifically in the amino terminal region, where the EGF-like repeats and the first two CUB domains reside, highlighting the importance of cubilin′s structural integrity for function. Mutations in the cubilin gene can lead to megaloblastic anemia 1 (MGA1), a genetic disorder that results in the malabsorption of vitamin B12, underscoring cubilin′s vital role in nutrient uptake and overall health. Anti-cubilin antibody (A-4) is therefore a valuable tool for researchers studying the mechanisms of nutrient absorption and related disorders.
