Contactin 2, also known as CNTN2, transiently-expressed axonal glycoprotein, and Axonin-1, serves as a crucial neuronal cell adhesion molecule that plays a significant role in forming axonal connections during neural development. Contactin 2 is primarily located on the cell membrane of axons within nerve fiber tracts, where Contactin 2 guides commissural axons without promoting their growth, ensuring proper neural circuit formation. Contactin 2 is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and features a glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor, six immunoglobulin-like domains, and four fibronectin type III-like domains, which are essential for adhesive properties.
