CMV ICP8 Antibody (CH167) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects the CMV ICP8 protein of CMV origin by western blotting (WB) and immunofluorescence (IF). Anti-CMV ICP8 antibody (CH167) is available as the non-conjugated format. Cytomegalovirus (CMV), also known as human herpesvirus 5 (HHV-5), is a member of the herpes virus family, which includes other notable viruses such as herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, Varicella Zoster Virus, and Epstein Barr virus. While CMV typically causes mild symptoms in healthy individuals, CMV can lead to severe complications in immunocompromised patients. CMV ICP8 protein, also referred to as UL57, SSB, or DB140, is an essential early, nonstructural gene product that is localized in the nucleus of infected cells. CMV ICP8 plays a critical role in viral replication as CMV ICP8 functions as a single-stranded DNA binding protein, which is vital for the replication of viral DNA. The ability of CMV ICP8 to bind to single-stranded DNA is crucial for the virus′s life cycle, as CMV ICP8 facilitates the unwinding of DNA during replication, thereby ensuring efficient viral propagation. Anti-CMV ICP8 antibody (CH167) is an invaluable tool for researchers studying CMV infection and its mechanisms, providing insights into the viral life cycle and potential therapeutic targets.
