SEE ALSO...

CMAS Antibody (14W) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects CMAS in mouse, rat, and human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). CMAS, or cytidine monophosphate N-acetylneuraminic acid synthetase, is a crucial 434 amino acid enzyme that plays a significant role in sialic acid metabolism and is predominantly localized in the nucleus. This evolutionarily conserved protein functions as a homotetramer, catalyzing the conversion of N-acetylneuraminic acid and cytidine triphosphate (CTP) into cytidine 5′-monophosphate N-acetylneuraminic acid (CMP-NeuNAc). The production of CMP-NeuNAc is vital as it serves as an essential donor substrate for sialyltransferases, which are responsible for adding sialic acid to the terminal hydroxyl groups of glycoproteins, polysaccharides, and glycolipids. This post-translational modification is critical for the proper development, structure, and function of animal tissues, influencing various biological processes such as cell signaling, immune response, and tissue development. Anti-CMAS antibody (14W) is an invaluable tool for researchers studying these complex biological pathways and the role of sialic acid in cellular functions.

Can sc-100486: CMAS (14W) monoclonal antibody be used to stain formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections?

Asked by: Trav11
Thank you for your question. Yes, sc-100486: CMAS (14W) is recommended for use in IHC with paraffin-embedded sections. We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
