Clozapine N-oxide is a major metabolite of clozapine (sc-200402), along with N-desmethyl clozapine (sc-219117), as identified by reverse-phase HPLC. It has been noted to decrease 5-HT2 serotonin receptor (SR-2A) density in rat primary cortical cells and human hippocampal SHS5Y5 neuroblastoma cells in vitro.
