Clozapine-d8 is a deuterium-labeled version of the compound clozapine (sc-200402). Substitution with deuterium may enhance the metabolic stability of the molecule since the C-D bond is stronger and less susceptible to enzymatic breakdown than the C-H bond. This modification may lead to differences in the compound′s kinetics. By tracking the deuterated version and the non-deuterated compound, researchers can gain insight into how the compound is handled in vivo and identify metabolic pathways. Clozapine binds preferentially to D4DR (D4-dopamine) and SR-2 (5HT2-5-hydroxytryptamine receptor) and acts as a weak D1 and D2 antagonist. Clozapine has also been reported to bind to SR-2 (5HT2), SR-6 (5HT6), and SR-7 (5HT7 receptors).
