Cis-Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide. It exerts high toxicity against insects. Pyrethroids like permethrin are chemically designed to mimic the insecticidal activity of pyrethrins, natural compounds extracted from the flowers of Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium. These synthetic variants often exhibit enhanced stability and prolonged effectiveness. The effectiveness of cis-permethrin, like other pyrethroids, lies in its neurotoxic action on insects. It acts by disturbing the function of sodium channels in nerve cells, leading to prolonged depolarization and preventing the nerve from returning to its resting state. The cis configuration of permethrin is particularly important because the bioactivity of pyrethroids can vary significantly between different isomeric forms. Generally, the cis isomers have been found to possess higher insecticidal activity and, consequently, are often preferred in formulations targeting a wide range of pests.
