cis-12-Octadecenoic acid methyl ester is a monounsaturated C-18 fatty acid. It is a positional isomer of oleic acid. It is a colorless to yellowish liquid with a fruity odor, and it is generally soluble in alcohols, ethers, and chloroform, but insoluble in water. The methyl ester is a more lipid soluble form of the free acid that can be used as a standard for analysis. It can be used in the production of cosmetics, lubricants, and surfactants.
