Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride monohydrate is a form of ciprofloxacin that has been stabilized with hydrochloric acid and contains one molecule of water. Ciprofloxacin is a second generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic that exhibits antibacterial activity against both gram negative and gram positive bacteria. It inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication. Ciprofloxacin is often used to study the formation, maintenance, and disruption of bacterial biofilms.
