QUICK LINKS

Cilnidipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that functions by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into smooth muscle cells and cardiac myocytes. This inhibition leads to the relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and a reduction in systemic vascular resistance. Cilnidipine exerts its mode of action by selectively blocking L-type calcium channels, which are predominantly found in vascular smooth muscle and the heart. By blocking these channels, cilnidipine prevents the influx of calcium ions, thereby inhibiting muscle contraction and promoting vasodilation. This mechanism of action results in decreased blood pressure and improved blood flow to the heart and other organs. Cilnidipine may possess antioxidant properties, which may contribute to its effects.
