Chlorsulfuron, an N-sulfonylurea herbicide and an acetolactate synthase inhibitor, is an important compound within the sulfonylurea herbicide class. It can be described as N-carbamoyl-2-chlorobenzenesulfonamide, with a 4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl group replacing one hydrogen on the non-sulfonylated nitrogen. With a role as an agrochemical, herbicide, and EC 2.2.1.6 inhibitor, chlorsulfuron acts as a herbicide for controlling broadleaf weeds. The sulfonylurea herbicide chlorsulfuron hinders the biosynthesis of the amino acids valine and isoleucine in plants.
