Chlormethiazole hydrochloride potentiates GABAA receptor function. Chlormethiazole hydrochloride is a sedative and anticonvulsant which is neuroprotective. This compound prevents degeneration of serotonergic nerve terminals induced by MDMA (′Ecstasy′).
