CGS 9343B is a potent and selective antagonist of the angiotensin AT1 receptor, integral to the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system which regulates blood pressure and fluid balance. It operates through competitive binding to the AT1 receptor, thereby blocking angiotensin II from attaching and activating the receptor. This inhibition prevents the receptor from triggering pathways responsible for vasoconstriction, aldosterone secretion, and stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. As a result, CGS 9343B disrupts the typical biological actions facilitated by angiotensin II.
