Centrin-1 Antibody (2A6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects the Centrin-1 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Centrin-1 antibody (2A6) is available as a non-conjugated format. Centrin-1, also known as Caltractin isoform 2, is a member of the EF-hand type calcium-binding protein family, which includes Centrin-2 and Centrin-3. These proteins are crucial for various cellular functions, particularly in the organization and duplication of centrioles, which are essential for proper cell division. Centrin-1 is predominantly located in the cytoplasm and is associated with centrosomes, mitotic spindle poles, and basal bodies, highlighting its role in maintaining cellular architecture during mitosis. The expression of Centrin-1 is notably increased during cell differentiation, especially in tissues where cilia are present, such as the retina and testis. In these tissues, Centrin-1 works in concert with Centrin-2, which is also found in non-differentiated retinal cells, liver, skeletal muscle, and cardiac muscle. The interaction of Centrin-1 with centrosomes is vital for centriole duplication and spindle pole organization, and knockdown studies have demonstrated that Centrin-1 is necessary for the completion of cytokinesis. Understanding the function and localization of Centrin-1 is important for elucidating its role in cell cycle regulation and potential implications in diseases related to cell division abnormalities.
