Cefetamet pivoxil hydrochloride is a third-generation cephalosporin known for its wide-ranging effectiveness against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Its main action involves inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It achieves this by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, which play a role in forming the peptidoglycan layer of the cell wall. Through this binding process, Cefetamet pivoxil prevents the formation of the peptidoglycan layer, ultimately putting a halt to bacterial growth.
