Cefadroxil monohydrate is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that functions by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It achieves this by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, which are necessary for the cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains in the bacterial cell wall. This interference ultimately leads to the disruption of the bacterial cell wall, causing cell lysis and death. As a result, Cefadroxil monohydrate exhibits bactericidal activity against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Its mechanism of action involves the disruption of necessary cellular processes, ultimately leading to the eradication of susceptible bacterial strains.
