CD5 is a crucial transmembrane glycoprotein predominantly expressed on T lymphocytes, accounting for approximately 70% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes and nearly all T cells in the thymus and peripheral blood. CD5 plays a significant role in T cell activation; when T cells engage their T cell receptor (TCR), CD5 undergoes tyrosine phosphorylation, which is essential for modulating T cell responses.
