Caspase-6 inhibitor is a cell-permeable, irreversible inhibitor of caspase-6, -8, and -10. Caspase inhibitors play an important role in investigating biological processes. Caspase proteins function as key components of apoptotic machinery and act to destroy specific target proteins which are critical to cellular longevity. Caspase-6 has been shown to cleave nuclear lamins, which are critical to maintaining the integrity of the nuclear envelope and cellular morphology. Cells induced to undergo apoptosis can be cultured in the presence or absence of the caspase-6 inhibitor. Standard apoptosis assays can then be used to examine treated cells for evidence of apoptosis.
For the fluorometric determination of caspase-6 activity, the following caspase apoptosis detection kit is available from Santa Cruz: Caspase-6 Kit (sc-4266 AK).
