(−)-Carbovir-5′-triphosphate is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor that functions by competitively inhibiting the incorporation of deoxynucleoside triphosphates into viral DNA by HIV-1 reverse transcriptase. (−)-Carbovir-5′-Triphosphate acts as a chain terminator, preventing the elongation of the viral DNA strand and ultimately inhibiting viral replication. By mimicking the structure of nucleotides, (−)-Carbovir-5′-triphosphate is able to effectively interfere with the reverse transcription process, disrupting the synthesis of viral DNA. (−)-Carbovir-5′-Triphosphate targets the catalytic site of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase, interfering with the enzyme′s ability to accurately replicate the viral genome. As a result, (−)-Carbovir-5′-triphosphate plays a key role in inhibiting the replication of HIV-1, making it useful for studying the molecular mechanisms of viral replication and for developing a deeper understanding of HIV pathogenesis.
