QUICK LINKS

Carbamyl-β-methylcholine chloride is a selective agonist of the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (mAChR M). This compound is not hydrolyzed by acetylcholinesterase due to the carbamyl functional group and is selective for mAChR M over nAChR. It acts by binding to muscarinic receptors, activating G proteins, and increasing intracellular calcium levels, resulting in smooth muscle contraction. Studies use Carbamyl-β-methylcholine chloride to study the effects of the cholinergic system on the contraction of smooth muscle cells, as well as its role in the regulation of calcium channels and the release of neurotransmitters.
