Carbamazepine 10,11-Epoxide is a metabolite of Carbamazepine. Representative lots contained 1-2% carbamazepine by HPLC. Although the exact mechanism of action of Carbamazepine-10,11-epoxide remains incompletely elucidated, it is hypothesized to exert its effects by inhibiting sodium channels responsible for action potential generation and propagation. Moreover, it seems to influence the GABAergic system, which plays a role in regulating seizure activity. Furthermore, Carbamazepine-10,11-epoxide has been observed to modulate the activity of the NMDA receptor, which is implicated in memory and learning processes.
