Candicidin is a polyene antifungal antibiotic produced. Candicidin is a member of the macrolide family of antibiotics and is known for its ability to disrupt the integrity of fungal cell membranes by binding to ergosterol, a key component of the fungal cell membrane. This binding leads to the formation of pores in the membrane, ultimately causing leakage of cellular contents and cell death. Candicidin is effective against a wide range of pathogenic fungi, including Candida species.
