Calpeptin is a cell permeable calpain inhibitor. Research shows that it is an effective inhibitor of calpain 2 and can fully block cleavage of PLC-beta 3 enzymes. Additionally, Calpeptin has demonstrated the ability to inhibit the activities of cathepsin L and calpain-1. In muscle cell studies, it blocked the expression of aspartyl protease cathepsin D, amyloid precursor protein, and calparin. Pulmonary fibrosis research in mice have reported that Calpeptin can decrease expression of TGF-beta1, IL-6, collage type Ialpha1, and angiopoietin-1 mRNA. Calpeptin is an inhibitor of Calpain 1, cathepsin K, cathepsin L and PTP, and an activator of Rock.
