cADP-Ribose (cADPR), a nicotamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) metabolite, is an agent that can be found in sea urchin eggs and may act to mobilize intracellular Ca2+ stores of the eggs. Additionally, in a study on pancreatic beta cells, cADP-Ribose (cADPR) was found to be generated in islets by glucose stimulation, and served as a second messenger for calcium mobilization in the endoplasmic reticulum. Other experiments have reported cADP-Ribose to be a signaling molecule in abscisic acid response in plants, which mediates plant responses to stresses such as salinity, cold, and drought. cADP-Ribose (cADPR)′s role in calcium signaling pathways is useful for dissecting the mechanisms by which cells regulate calcium levels and respond to stimuli.
