QUICK LINKS

C2 Ceramide is a ceramide shown to be a potent modulator of proliferation and differentiation, used as a tool for studying the complex signaling associated with the ceramides. N-Acetyl-D-sphingosine and other ceramides like C2 ceramide are shown to activate a cystolic serine/threonine protein phosphatase, and mediate other biological activities. The main ceramide-activated protein phosphatase was isolated and identified as trimeric and dimeric PP2A. The sphingomyelin pathway, which generates ceramides like C2 ceramide as second messengers, is thought to mediate apoptosis in response to TNF-α through the stress-activated protein kinase (SAPK/JNK) signaling system. C2 Ceramide is a potential activator of ERK 2, PP1, and PP2.

What should I do if the C2 has precipitated out of solution? I dissolved it in DMSO to make a stock solution of 50mM. I then added the stock to RPMI + 10% FBS at a final concentration of 100 uM.
