Bromfenvinphos-methyl is a chemical that functions as an organophosphate insecticide. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting the activity of acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme responsible for breaking down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. By doing so, it leads to an accumulation of acetylcholine at the synaptic cleft, resulting in overstimulation of cholinergic receptors in the nervous system. This overstimulation disrupts normal nerve function, leading to paralysis and ultimately death in insects.
