Brodimoprim is an aminopyrimidine that is 2,4-diaminopyrimidine in which the hydrogen at position 5 has been replaced by a 4-bromo-3,5-dimethoxybenzyl group. It has a role as an dihydrofolate reductase inhibitor. Dihydrofolate reductase an enzyme for the synthesis of tetrahydrofolate, which is necessary for the production of nucleic acids and proteins. Brodimoprim is an aminopyrimidine, a member of bromobenzenes and a member of methoxybenzenes. Brodimoprim is highly active against a broad spectrum of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Brodimoprim′s action inhibits the bacterial synthesis of DNA, RNA, and proteins, leading to the inhibition of bacterial growth and replication.
