(−)-Boc-L-thioproline is a versatile building block in organic synthesis. It can be used to create polymers, agrochemicals, and many natural products. In addition, it is employed as a protecting group in peptide synthesis, as a reagent in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds, and as a catalyst in organic reactions. The carboxylic acid group of the molecule can react with proteins, enzymes, and other cellular components to form covalent bonds. Specifically, this group can react with nucleophiles, such as amines and alcohols, to form amides and esters, respectively. Additionally, the L-thioproline backbone of the molecule can react with electrophiles, such as halogens and electrophilic aromatic substitution reagents, to form L-thioproline derivatives.
