Boc-His(Bzl)-OH, a derivative of histidine, is prevalently used in the creation of peptides. It is a white to off-white powder, soluble in organic solvents such as dimethylformamide (DMF) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), but is water-insoluble. Studies shows that Boc-His(Bzl)-OH has antioxidant properties, capable of neutralizing free radicals. Its antimicrobial properties allow it to play a role in forming antimicrobial peptides. Typically, it is used in peptide synthesis as a protective agent for the histidine amino group and serves as a foundational element in the synthesis of bioactive peptides.
