Boc-6-Ahx-OH is a lysine derivative where the amine group is protected by the tert-butoxycarbonyl (Boc) group. This white crystalline substance dissolves in water and many organic solvents. It is widely used in peptide synthesis because it is an amino acid that can be easily incorporated into peptide chains. The Boc group plays a protective role, preventing the amine group from undesired reactions. Yet, when needed, this protective group can be simply stripped away under gentle acidic conditions. Boc-6-Ahx-OH serves not only in crafting esters of 6-aminohexanoic acid, which act as antibacterial agents, but it also has reported inhibitory effects on enzymes like chymotrypsin, Factor VIIa, and plasmin, among others.
