QUICK LINKS

Bleomycin sulfate is the sulfate salt of a complex chemical. Bleomycin Sulfate approximates metals such as Fe(II) which then coordinate dioxygen to generate the active species. This Bleomycin-metal-dioxygen species is capable of inducing oxidative cleavage of the DNA backbone, leading to apoptosis. The species also degrades RNA, and has been reported to display selectivity for RNA over DNA. Bleomycin Sulfate can achieve this by chelating metal ions, producing a pseudoenzyme that reacts with oxygen to produce superoxide and hydroxide free radicals that cleave DNA.

What do you recommend reconstituting the bleomycin in? I have been using autoclaved DI water for cell culture but wasn't sure what was recommended. Additionally, is there a minimum concentration to make for a stock solution?

Asked by: AmandaShick
Thank you for your question. DMSO : 100 mg/mL ( (66.11 mM); Moisture-absorbing DMSO reduces solubility. Please use fresh DMSO.) Water : 100 mg/mL Ethanol : Insoluble
