Biotin-FA-FMK is a a cell permeable, biotinylated analog of the cathespin inhibitor Z-FA-FMK (sc-201303). This compound is designed to target and label active caspases within cells, providing a means to study apoptosis or programmed cell death mechanisms. A biotin moiety allows for the easy detection or capture of the molecule (and any protein it is attached to) due to the strong affinity of biotin for avidin or streptavidin. The fluorescein component provides a fluorescent label, enabling the direct visualization of the compound (and the caspase activity it marks) under a fluorescence microscope or in flow cytometry. The FMK group is a functional moiety that irreversibly binds to the cysteine residue in the active site of caspase enzymes. Caspases are a family of proteases central to the execution of apoptosis.
